Last week was Constituency break for the Legislature as it allowed MLA’s to take some time to visit their Constituencies and recharge to prepare for the “home-stretch” of the spring/summer session of the Legislature.
Being able to socialize and interact with Constituents in my riding is by far the most rewarding part of my position as MLA for the people of Lac Ste. Anne-Parkland. Having the ability to meet, converse, and help those in my Constituency achieve the goals and aspirations they have for themselves and the greater community is truly a privilege that I do not take lightly.
That is why I made sure the time I had during my Constituency break was put to good use.
Beginning on Monday (June. 29th), I had a meeting with the Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Tourism—the Honourable Tanya Fir—to discuss the Alaska to Alberta Railway (A2A) development that I have been working on extensively, and am very passionate about. This meeting was an opportunity to not only discuss the railway, but an opportunity to express my support to the Minister in ensuring Alberta’s Recovery Plan is fulfilled.
This meeting came just before the exciting announcement that I would be chairing a task force to ensure the establishment of various strategic energy corridors within the province and within Canada. I am honoured to be named chair of this task force, and I am looking forward to creating reliable energy corridors this province can rely on.
Wednesday was Canada Day, a day to celebrate everything great about this country and to thank all those who sacrificed so much to make this country what it is today.
My Canada Day was filled with lots of laughter, fun, and substantive engagement with Constituents. I had the opportunity to attend a “drive-thru” Canada Day celebration in Morinville and Stony Plain. In attendance were various elected representatives from the Municipal, Provincial and Federal levels–including Dale Nally, the MLA for Morinville-St. Albert and the Associate Minister of Natural Gas and Electricity. During the event, I had the opportunity to speak to Constituents one-on-one for two to three minutes, wishing them a Happy Canada Day and discussing some of the issues they are having in their respective communities.
Despite the poor weather and restrictions on outdoor celebrations, it was a great event and a Canada Day I will remember for a long time.
To finish the week I spent some much needed time with my family, and prepared for the home-stretch of the spring/summer sitting of the Legislature.
Constituency week was well spent, and I am looking forward to being in my Constituency more as this sitting of the Legislature draws to a close.
Best Regards,
