Funds for Mayerthorpe Food Bank
I recently spoke with Tammy Lee Gilroy of the Mayerthorpe Food Bank, to thank her and her team for the support they provide our community, about their operations, their recent troubles with break-ins and the positive impact of their receipt of a $19,000.00 grant.
The money was provided through the Social Services Support for COVID-19 grant program implemented to ensure that the most vulnerable in our communities were cared for.
On March 17, 2020 the emergency funding for charities, not-for-profits and civil society organizations was announced and as of May 15th $30 million in funding has been provided to over 460 organizations across the Province.
Successful grant recipients will be providing services to address the social well-being of those most affected by COVID-19 and the measures implemented to limit the spread of the virus. Food Banks were allocated $5 million and both the Mayerthorpe Food Bank and the Lac Ste. Anne East Food Bank in Onoway received funding.
