Thank you for sharing your opinions
Firstly, I’d like to thank the 530 people who took the time to take our “What Matters to YOU” poll. A special thank you to the 373 constituents of Lac Ste Anne Parkland who participated. This data is very important, as your MLA it provides me with information that I can put my hand on, and it is used to assist me when speaking on your behalf.
Although it was not a random poll, it is reflective of those who are actively engaged with our office, our town halls. A future poll will also include random sampling, a more traditional telephone poll with the same questions, which will be able to be compared to other polls taken by other groups in our area. It will be of great interest to see how our own results may differ between active participation, vs passive participation. The attached graphs are the ones people have been asking the most about, please continue to check the website for more updates from the survey.
Poll Results
The poll indicates that the top three issues facing the province of Alberta today is to open up the province again and remove the restrictions, followed by economy, which was a very close second and the lack of jobs and unemployment rates.
The majority of feel the government has gone too far in implementing measures to protect the health system and limit the spread of COVID-19.
They also believe the government should hold the line on spending to avoid increasing the debt and future tax increases and we have not struck a balance between protecting lives and livelihoods, which in turn is having a negative effect on people’s mental health.
Expansion of export opportunities through transportation and utility corridors is also believed to be important and Alberta struggles to get its resources to international markets through lack of proper infrastructure, while we do have the potential to be a resource export hub.

Closing Remarks
Again, I wish to thank you for taking the time to participate in our poll, and we will endeavor to have additional polls for our constituency as we transition less restrictions, and back to the state that we are all looking forward to, no restrictions at all. The information in the strain that people have been under financially, and mentally over the last while has not gone unnoticed, and the results of the poll strongly indicate I need to continue to work on the economic recovery for our area, and that we all need to keep an eye out for each other as we move forward.
Sincerely,
MLA Shane Getson
