Fall Scenery
The fall weather continues to amaze me here in God’s country. As the season changes, the colours are breathtaking. The weather hasn’t been bad at all. Even the moon was out in full force the other night. The reason I mention this is because of the scenery we have in Lac Ste. Anne – Parkland is truly remarkable, and I think it’s important to spend a moment appreciating the positive things, even if they are small. I’m still looking forward to receiving more of your pictures of the fall scenery that moves you from around our area, so we can display it on our website and social media.
Municipal Voting Questions – Results on Oct 26
Residents went to the polls on Monday to elect municipal representatives and to get your input on having us open the discussion on equalization with the federal government. You should be hearing the results of those questions on October 26th – I look forward to sharing them with you. However, the most important message I have this week is a heartfelt thank you to everyone who put their name forward as a mayor, reeve, councillor, and school trustee. Democracy is stronger when we have a wide range of candidates with diverse views. I also want to congratulate all the successful candidates who were elected for the county, town, and school board. I look forward to meeting with the new councils and boards over the next several weeks to discuss how we can continue improving this community and region. To those who are retiring from public service, thank you for your service to God’s country.
Seniors’ Special Service Award
Congratulations are also in order for Meagan Chapman, who won this year’s Seniors’ Special Service Award. Meagan is the Acting Recreation Manager for the St. Michaels Long-Term Care Centre. She came up with some innovative ways to help residents stay connected with their families during COVID-19. Something Meagan put together that really impressed me was an intergenerational program between students and residents. Things like pen pal programs and window visits are helping connect seniors and the youth of this community. It’s way to learn and stay engaged. Congratulations Meagan! People like you exemplify the sense of community we have here in Lac St. Anne-Parkland, and how much we all care about our elders.
Visit me at satellite office at the Peter Trynchy Airport in Mayerthorpe!
As you know, I always enjoy meeting with constituents and hearing what is on their minds. I recently opened a satellite office at the Peter Trynchy Airport in Mayerthorpe. Be sure to contact my office and let me know if you want to stop by and chat. I will also be attending Rich Valley’s Trunk or Treat on October 30 from 1:00 – 3:30 so come and and say hi. I’m really looking forward to seeing all the youngsters out with their costumes. With the crazy state the world is in right now, I believe little things like kids being able to enjoy a normal Halloween night out are more valuable than ever.
I also want to thank all the folks who shared their thoughts and input with me over the last couple of weeks. Sometimes we agree on things, and other times we disagree – I believe both of these are vitally important conversations to have, and either way, it’s my job to try and represent the views of Lac Ste. Anne – Parkland in caucus and the Legislature. The next sitting of the Legislature starts on Monday. Because of all your comments and suggestions, I will be able to represent you more effectively this coming week. Take care of yourself, and please watch out for one another, with all of the stresses out there recently, I’m seeing too many folks arguing about a few things they don’t agree about, rather than the majority of things that they do. Please don’t loose sight of that, I see way more people working to do what they can to make our corner of the province a better place, even though they may take different approaches from time to time, the goal is the same.
