Emergency funding for charities and not-for-profit organizations
MLA Shane Getson from the constituency of Lac Ste Anne Parkland articulated the Alberta Government message on the ‘Emergency Funding for Charities and Not-for-Profits to the media. His message was as follows:
Information on the emergency funding from the Alberta government as part of the COVID-19 response. On May 15, 2020, government announced that $30 million in emergency social services funding has been provided to charities, not-for-profits and civil society organizations to support their COVID-19 response.
Charities, not-for-profits and civil society
On March 17, 2020, the Alberta government announced additional emergency funding to charities, not-for-profits and civil society organizations to support their COVID-19 response.
As of May 15, 2020, $30 million in funding has been provided to over 460 charities, not-for-profits, food banks and civil society organizations across the province. Successful grant recipients will be providing services to address the social well-being of those most affected by COVID-19 and the measures implemented to limit the spread of the virus.
After reviewing applications from across the province for the emergency social services funding announced in April, government will provide $30 million to more than 460 successful applicants to support their responses to COVID-19.
Food banks across Alberta are being provided $5 million in funding to help them feed vulnerable populations.
“Our daily routines and many things we take for granted have had to change, but together Albertans are meeting the challenges of the pandemic. Emergency social services funds are helping communities do more to support vulnerable Albertans.”

The Alberta government is currently working with successful grant recipients to ensure help is being immediately provided to those who need it most.
Food banks and food supply
$5 million in funding will be distributed to food banks and community organizations to support their food supply efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. This funding helps ensure safe food distribution and secure access to food for vulnerable Albertans.
