Invitation to Contribute
We are inviting Albertans to tell us how Alberta Environment and Parks land-use policies can provide more clarity and consistency in managing our outdoor spaces. This input from Albertans will help shape future policy and legislation surrounding Crown Land for generations to come. Alberta’s government is seeking input on how we can enhance trails for a variety of users, supporting partnerships, and funding opportunities.
Alberta Is God’s Country
I often refer to our part of Alberta as God’s country, we have been blessed with a few big rivers, many large lakes, rolling topography, grasslands, and grain fields. In truth, I think as most of Alberta as God’s country, and I have had the opportunity to work in most regions of our province, and I am I have a deep connection with the land we all call home.
Vision for Crown Land
With this in mind, I wanted to talk to you about our vision for Crown Land and engagement. As we promised in our platform, Alberta’s government is consulting on how we can improve recreation opportunities, specifically for trail users. Our Crown Lands serve a variety of purposes from conservation, to recreation, to economic activity, but the system is complicated and does not always recognize the variety of uses for the land.
Crown Land includes public lands, parks, and protected areas, it encompasses 60% of the province and is now used for multiple purposes and Crown Land policies need to reflect their importance.
Alberta’s Crown Land Vision is to make the land-use system clear and understandable, support sustainable funding and partnerships for recreation, and to focus on outcomes and reducing red tape.
