Carbon Tax Will Grow From $40 to $170/tonne
Recently Prime Minister Trudeau planned an increase of the carbon tax to $170/tonne by 2030 right in the middle of a pandemic. The tax in isolation does nothing, it is a cash grab, and ineffectual in obtaining the alleged goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Talk about Déjà vu all over again. The funny thing about this is that former Environment Minister, Catherine Mackenna, told Canadians that their government would not raise the carbon tax over $50/tonne. The “Trojan Horse” comment by the judge sure does ring true in the ears of the majority of Albertans when it comes to the federal government and their cash grab tax scheme.
Trojan Horse Tax
It wasn’t too long ago that many of us were up in arms about the introduction of a federal carbon tax here in Alberta. In fact so many people were upset about it, that our very first bill that was passed in the Legislature was to revoke the carbon tax. We also won the court case provincially, and in the words of the judge, it in essence was a “Trojan Horse Tax”. Our court case is now at the supreme court level, this Tax is just plain wrong.
Ottawa Wants More!
Ottawa just keeps squeezing more out of us, “Forgetting what they Promised”, and with this recent increase the result could be the loss of nearly 100,000 Alberta jobs. Our province is fighting its way out of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, the last thing we need to worry about is this carbon tax trickery coming from Ottawa.
It should go without question that all politicians in our province should stand together against Trudeau’s plan to jack the carbon tax by 467 per cent. Ultimately, we are all on team Alberta.
This carbon tax increase will raise the price of everything, whether its groceries, heating your home, or driving your kid to hockey practice. Trudeau’s carbon tax will not save the environment, but it is merely a cash grab to prop up his ballooning deficit which is over $350 billion dollars.
Here in Alberta, we are taking concrete action to reduce emissions, through innovation and technology, instead of raising taxes and punishing all Canadians.
The time is now to raise our voices and send a clear message to the Trudeau Liberals that we will not accept this.
