Focus on Challenges Raised by COVID-19
I wanted to update my Constituents on how Alberta has been progressing during phase two of our relaunch program. I am very happy to report that Albertans have done exceptionally well during phase two as numbers have flattened considerably, and the amount of cases are becoming less and less as each day goes by.
Last Thursday (July. 2nd), Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer–Dr. Deena Hinshaw–informed Albertans about the progress the province has made to date (in response to COVID-19). In her announcement, Dr. Hinshaw mentioned a number of statistics and other relevant information that would lead Albertans to feel optimistic about the future as we hope to quash the virus’ potency. However, there were a few key pieces of information that I want to highlight for my Constituents.
Alberta Facts
Firstly, Dr. Hinshaw expressed that a total of 7,505 Albertans have recovered from the virus, and only 44 Albertans remain in hospital–eight of which are in intensive care.
In terms of the total number of active cases, there are currently 542 active cases in the province (as of July. 2nd). The cases are situated all over the province, but most cases can be found within the Calgary area.
With positive numbers like this, the province has been able to steadily ease restrictions on the public. In particular, Albertans are now able to gather outside and attend various outdoor events that do not exceed 200 people.
Commitment to Curb the Spread of COVID-19
That being said, restrictions still remain in place for indoor events and festivities as no more than 50 people are allowed to gather for events like weddings, birthdays, and funerals. It should be noted, however, that indoor events may have up to 100 people if they are seated events that can facilitate social distancing measures (i.e. events with minimal socializing and walking around others).
These restrictions remain in place to ensure that Albertans can feel safe in public, while at the same time, establishing greater normalcy and freedom for Albertans to enjoy the many pleasures of life.
Daily case numbers are updated every weekday as the COVID-19 pandemic is an everchanging health issue that must be monitored frequently to ensure Albertans are protected.
If Albertans continue to remain committed to curbing the spread of COVID-19, these numbers will only continue to improve and normalcy will soon be restored in our beautiful province, country, and around the world.
