Federal Carbon Tax
On February 24, the Alberta Court of Appeal announced a Landmark 4-1 decision declaring the federal carbon tax unconstitutional. In their decision, the Court of Appeal called the effort to impose this punishing tax on families in Alberta a “constitutional Trojan Horse”.
By fighting the federal carbon tax, this government is standing up for Albertan taxpayers.
Bill 1 – Critical Infrastructure Defense Act
I am also proud to share that our government is making the rule of law a priority. On Day One the Premier introduced Bill 1, The Critical Infrastructure Defense Act.
This bill clearly defines the infrastructure that Albertans rely on every day – including highways, railroads, and pipelines – and protects it from illegal protests or blockades. protected from interference.
Under Bill 1, individuals who participate in illegal blockades face fines up to $25,000, and a jail sentence of up to 6 months.
This bill is sending the important message that the lawlessness we have seen across the country has no place in Alberta.
More on Alberta Budget
The budget focuses on finding cost efficiencies and creating jobs while maintaining the high-quality services Albertans deserve.
Budget 2020 builds on the foundation set by Budget 2019, with a focus on fostering job creation and investment in our province.
The new budget allocates $772 million in new infrastructure projects for the next three years. This means more capital investment in health facilities, schools, roads and road maintenance, and more.
With the deficit $1.2 billion lower than projected in Budget 2019, Albertan taxpayers can expect to pay $35 million less in debt-servicing costs. Our fiscal plan is working, and our province is finally getting back on track.
Stay tuned as announcements are made in the coming weeks!
Alberta Provincial Parks: Our Treasure
Provincial Parks are not for sale, period!
The Government is making changes to the parks model to find efficiencies and create partnership opportunities for Albertans and Non-Profits.
